Nintendo Wii - Launch Date December 8th 2006 The Nintendo Wii is due to launch on the 8th December - just in time for Christmas. However, stocks are going to be in short supply, so we recommend pre-ordering your Wii with your local game store, or online. The Wii is the latest home video games console from Nintendo and the successor to the Gamecube. Nintendo have ditched the traditional controller based system as seen on other games consoles and players interact using a 'Wii-mote', a controller which looks similar to a normal TV remote control, picking up your actual movements. Nintendo claim this will 'revolutionise gaming' and they aren't wrong! As well as the controller, the Wii will also offer you a fantastic gaming experience online using it's WiiConnect24 service. If you have a wireless router you can connect to the service and play against people from around the world, creating an instant multiplayer experience, only without the need for a split screen. You will also be able to download games from the back catalogue of the NES, SNES, Mega Drive and N64 for a spot of retro action. As well as this, the Wii will happily play your Gamecube games straight from your existing discs, so you're collection won't be made redundant once it arrives. As for brand new Wii games, your spoilt for choice with a total of 23 available from launch, including the long awaited Zelda: Twilight Princess. Originally scheduled for the Gamecube, it will be available from day one on the Wii and will show off the full potential of the system and it's 'Wii-mote'. Pre order a Wii We've been keeping track of where you can pre order a Wii and outlined them below.
